Torquay Rotary Motor Show, VIC

Elephant Walk, The Esplanade

9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

With over 400 cars on display and some 6,000 in attendance, our 2018 Show broke all previous records and provided the Rotary Club of Torquay with over $20,000 to fund Local, National and International Rotary Projects for which we are most grateful.

A large contingent of Corvettes and their owners from across the state have already committed to the 2019 Torquay Rotary Motor Show and they will be encouraged with the introduction of a feature Class for the Corvette marque.

Consistent growth of entries in the Class for “Unrestored” vehicles in recent years has also encouraged the judging team to add additional classes for unrestored cars to cater for not just the older barn find - oily rag vehicles, but also pre1990 vehicles that have not had restoration work performed on them. 2019 will also see the introduction of a prepaid entry ticketing facility to enable faster processing of entrants and vehicles as they arrive at the Show.

The diversity of the more 400 incredibly unique motor cars and motor cycles from all ages being displayed on the spectacular Torquay foreshore, with the beach on one side and the retail precinct on the other, are the ingredients which continue to make this show popular with families and spectators of all ages.

You are invited to come and get up close and personal with these stunning vehicles. You will be in awe of the craftsmanship that has gone into both the original design and the manufacture of these much-loved vehicles and the restoration skills of the passionate owners who have lovingly cared for them.

Entry fees will remain the unchanged for 2019 at $20 for car and driver, with adults $5 and children free. Many attractions will be available to entertain, plus food, good coffee, refreshments and memorabilia on sale. Torquay Rotary are committed to maintaining the 2019 event as “show for the whole family” with, beach for the kids, the shops for the ladies and the cars for the boys!

This event is a fundraising project of the Rotary Club of Torquay, proudly supported by the RACV and other local traders with proceeds from the event to be used for Local, National and International Rotary Health projects.

Rally Retro Day, VIC

Avalon

9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

What happens to old rally cars after they’ve passed their use-by date? Those cars that no longer fit into today’s regulations, those that are no longer fast enough, or cars that are becoming far too valuable to rally competitively?

Until now many are simply pushed into a shed and left to gather dust. Often they are neglected by their owners, partially stripped down with the intention of giving them a full rebuild one day, or parked in a corner of a shed and out of sight, their past victories all but totally forgotten.

But there has to be an opportunity to bring them out of the woodwork and put these old rally cars on display for all the world to see. And now a group of Australian enthusiasts are planning on running a similar rally day early in 2019. Already the wheels are in motion, and it’s not surprising that there is a growing list of eligible vehicles from as far back as the past 50 years, the owners of which are dead keen to be involved.

Likely “Aussie” possibles include ex-works Morris Cooper S, R8 Gordini, Torana XU1, ex- London – Sydney Falcons, Greg Carr’s Alfa Romeo GTV6 and RS1800 Escort, Renault Alpine A110, Sierra Cosworth, Subaru Imprezas, Mitsubishi Evos, numerous Datsun 1600s and so on.

Plans are underway to hold this display event in conjunction with an optional khanacross at Avalon in Melbourne’s western suburbs on April 7, 2019. More details will be available during the next few months. In the meantime, interested rally car owners are urged to contact Amy Jane Cranston (0414 560 688), Paul Mollison (0407 272 646) or Alan Baker on 0407 313 128.

Concours dLemons Down Under, SA

Torrens Parade Ground, King William Road, Adelaide

10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

It's the world's worst car show, or more correctly a show of the world's worst cars, and despite all efforts, it’s slipped past our border security and immigration controls, and is heading to Adelaide, South Australia for a third time in 2019!

Concours d’Lemons, certainly lives up to its slogan of “celebrating the oddball, mundane and truly awful of the automotive world”, and even goes so far as to thumb its nose at conventional shows by openly encouraging the bribing of its celebrity judges.

Open to vehicles of all types, the Adelaide public will be subjected to some zany examples of questionable engineering and roadworthiness, as owners fall all over each other to win $2 recycled trophies in categories such as “Needlessly Complex Italian”, “Rueful Britannia”, and “Der Self-SatisfiedKrauttenWagen” to name but a few.

The low-point of the day, will be the public humiliation of the winner of the “Worst of Show” award, presented by our zany host, American journo, Alan Galbraith.
