The Toymaker Classic Automobiles commenced trading in 2006 after the proprietor Simon Forrester had honed his trade working for a number of highly regarded businesses. Like many that had preceded him, he felt the need to set up his own business and be in control of his destiny. Quality, attention to detail and providing a range of services based on what his clients wanted are the driving factors for his company.
Simon did an apprenticeship as a mechanic and followed this up with another trade course becoming a qualified Auto Electrician. He spent his formative years working for the racing legend, Kevin Bartlett and the knowledge and expertise he picked up in those early years have led to many satisfied customers today. He also spent many years with a well known restoration shop on Sydney`s Northern beaches working on marques including Aston Martin, E Type Jaguars, Mercedes and his true passion, Porsche.
The Toymaker Classic Automobiles company was located in Artarmon for eighteen months and then moved to its current location in Brookvale, New South Wales. The workshop is conveniently located in Sydenham Road and offers a good, light space that can hold six cars comfortably while still allowing the staff to perform restorations of the highest standards. Obviously Porsche features prominently but the business caters for all classic car enthusiasts and they have restored an EH Holden, E49 Charger, Astons, Jags and even a Land Rover.
The business provides a wide range of services from basic mechanical work right through to a fully managed concourse restoration. All services are provided in house with the exception of paint and panel which is outsourced to trusted suppliers. Fabrication, engine rebuilds, brake upgrades, full driveline restoration or modification/customisation, interior, wiring - you name it and they can meet a clients expectations.
All work is provided on an hourly rate and they can give a ball park figure to a customer based on their specifications. Occasionally the old adage applies - how long is a piece of string? Sometimes unforseen challenges arise after deconstruction and if this is the case the client can come and inspect their vehicle and with the knowledge and experience of the team work out a strategy on how to move forward. Through constant communication the client will understand where they are in the process, what is happening next and a time frame on the work needed for completion.
All classic car enthusiasts have a daily driver and to cater for this the workshop also provides log book servicing, mechanical repairs, auto electrical work and anything required to keep modern European and local cars on the road.
The Toymaker Classic Automobiles have a relationship with Shannons Insurance and in New South Wales provide the Auction Inspection Report for all the cars listed in their numerous auctions throughout the year. This is a fairly detailed document and provides the ability for Shannons to document the mechanical condition of all the cars so that potential buyers have a better understanding of the condition of the classics that they may bid on.
To support their mantra of quality and quality of workmanship the business has a well documented web site that covers a number of the cars they have restored and shows detailed images of the work performed by the team. To accompany the text and images there are customer testimonials that give potential clients a good insight into how the business is viewed and how happy they were having The Toymaker Classic Automobiles perform work on their classics.

I have come across a lot of mechanics in my time, but no one comes close to the skill and aptitude that Simon possesses - G. Tunks
When I purchased my 914 fitted with a rebuilt 2.7 911 engine, it had numerous oil leaks due to poor workmanship. I took the car to Simon Forrester and he removed the engine and stripped off all the parts. He then machined all of the aluminium and magnesium parts and refitted them properly. 2 Years later and my garage does not have a drop of oil on it. I would recommend Simons workmanship to anyone - A. Wagner
Simon brought efficiency, purpose and planning, along with the highest standard of
workmanship to the project - B. Russell
